Jodo & Iaido Seminar, October 5 to 6, 2025

The Rock Kendo and Iaido Club is thrilled to host a Jodo and Iaido Seminar with Alexander Cook Sensei, Ka Muso Kai Calgary, on Sunday, October 5, and Monday, October 6, 2025.

Alexander Cook is a 4th Dan in Iaido and a 5th Dan in Jodo. He has studied Iaido since 2004 with Chris Gilham Sensei and has studied Jodo with Kim Taylor Sensei since 2008.

Participants will be introduced to:

  • Jodo

  • Iaido (Koryu and Niten Ichi Ryu)

    Fee: $50 ($35 for students)

    Who May Attend: All are welcome however children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or other legal guardian, and those under the age of 19 must have a parent or other legal guardian available at registration.

    Prerequistes: No prequisite physical or martial arts training is required.

    Registration: Registration will take place prior to the first session. Those wishing to pre-register, may send an e-transfer to:

    Attire: If you do not have a gi (traditional martial arts uniform), a long-sleeve sweat shirt and sweat pants are recommended.

    In addition, if you do not have a gi, please bring a sash or scarf to hold a bokken (wooden sword).

    Street shoes are not permitted in the dojo (practice area), so it is recommended that attendees have sandals or socks to enter the gym.

    Once inside, practice is usually performed with bare feet.

    Equipment: If you have a bokken (wooden sword) and/or a jo (wooden staff) please bring them/it with you.

    (We have wooden weapons to share on a "first come, first serve" basis.)

    Masking: Masking is recommended but not mandatory.

    Dinner: Our plan is to book the The Guv'nor Pub & Eatery, for dinner on the Sunday (October 5) evening, 5:00 p.m., 389 Elizabeth Avenue St. John's NL, A1B 1V1
