Fred has had a lifelong interest in music starting with playing drums as a teenager. He played in a number of rock and roll bands in Corner Brook in the 70s prior to switching over to guitar. While raising his family he played guitar recreationally and completed formal guitar training. In 2005, he got involved with the St. John’s Jazz Festival and was a founding member of the Instigators, a blues band which was active on the St. John’s scene for about six years.

His musical interests are rock, jazz, and blues, influenced by the Beatles, the Doobie Brothers, Steeley Dan, Santana, George Benson, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Django Reinhardt, Stevie Wonder, George Gershwin, and Sting.
